Hello!   

I am Dr. Karen Harris McGibbon.

I am a Jamaican wife, mother, grandmother,   psychotherapist and happiness coach.  

 

I have worked as a high school teacher, school counselor and university professor for over 30 years. I have a passion for helping people!

 

Nothing makes me happier than seeing those I help become mentally and emotionally healthy 

human beings!

I enjoy cooking for my family, reading a good book, enjoying nature, playing racquetball and the piano whenever I get the chance.

What I've Been Up To

I am the CEO and Founder of Live Free Coaching & Counseling Services, and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Counseling at Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay, Ohio. Over the past 30 years, I have worked both in the public and private sector gaining a wealth of knowledge in several industries including Shipping, Packaging, Life Insurance, Standards & Compliance, Food, Education, Life Coaching and Counseling.


I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology (University of the West Indies), a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Psychology and Counseling (St. Stephen’s College - Canada), and a PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision from Regent University (Virginia Beach, USA). I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree, expecting to graduate in the Summer of 2023. My professional qualifications include being a Licensed Professional Counselor (Ja & Ohio), a Nationally Certified Counselor (USA) as well as a Certified Life Coach, specializing in Happiness Coaching.

On my career journey I held teaching positions at various high schools in Jamaica, as well as in Guidance Counseling and served as the Head of Guidance for St. Andrew High School for Girls in Kingston. I also taught "Happiness" at the Mico University College, counselors in training at the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology in Jamaica, and was the writer behind the Jamaica Gleaner Youthlink Magazine's "Dear Counsellor" column.

In Ohio, I have been a regular contributor to the "Mental Health Moments" column in The Courier newspaper, I write articles for the "InMind" blog on the Winebrenner website, and I am the past President of the North West Ohio Counselors Association. I recently joined a team of wonderful women as a co-host of "The Blend Talk" show!

I have a passion for helping people, having served in various Christian ministry leadership positions to individuals, couples and families for over 25 years. I have been married to Frank for over 28 years and am the mother of two wonderful children and one delightful granddaughter! I enjoy cooking for my family, reading a good book, playing racquetball and the piano whenever I get the chance!
